How does the military feel about non-military civilian politicians making homosexuality open?

Our military serves with honor under the Constitution. On Memorial Day I will remember their sacrifices.

Racial integration, hazing, gender roles, and now sexual orientation through DADT have been introduced to the military over time.

How much of this change is up to military leadership? How much is civilian?|||I think it's Gay

of course

women in the military is a real ***** too.|||All I can say is that the military is probably quite divided, like the civilians are.|||Voluntary enlistments will suffer amoung straights|||I want to install a bunch of lesbians in their homes and tell they to live with it. that is exactly what will happen in the dorms. Will it be okay if two gay men live together in a relationship? Will that be allowed? Does that mean we need to open all the dorms up to that right since gays will have that right? Fair is fair right?/ This is just BS and I want the list of politicians who voted for this.|||commander n chief|||In our country the military is a tool of the government, which is entirely civilian. The military will do what the Congress and the President decide it will do, and every man and woman who serves understands this. I have a couple of friends who are Marines and one who is a naval officer - none of them care. One of them is a lesbian, and will be happy that she can stop worrying about hiding her sexuality and focus on doing her job.|||I guess we will find out how the military feels soon enough when a lot of discrimination cases start opening up - on both sides.|||I understand the need for civilian control of the military it is vital for our Republic. That said the role of the civilian leadership needs to be limited to deciding how big the defense budget is going to be and when and where this nation goes to war.

They need to stay out of anything that involves decisions relating to military life and culture it is not their lane|||I respect General James T. Conway (USMC) for having the balls to tell congress that he doesn't think "Don't Ask..." should be repealed.

Meanwhile, Admiral Mike Mullen (CJCS) is just toeing the party line.|||Reality is quite shocking, I can take a bullet and live a year in the desert but I can't deal knowing people are gay...|||I know quite a few people who are active duty and they are almost universally opposed to and insulted by this. The basic feeling is, "I'm willing to die for my country, so they should respect my right to not have to worry about some loser wanting my **** in the showers." There's not a lot of privacy in the military, especially at the lower levels and during field deployments, so it's a legit concern. They have enough to worry about without this hurting morale even more.|||The DoD is currently reviewing the possible effects of allowing openly homosexual personnel to serve. We won't know how the military feels about it until their review is complete, and presented to Congress. I believe that they will return the recommendation to do away with the laws banning the gays to serve for the same reasons that the US has done away with the ban on women and on African-Americans. Honestly it is the right thing to do. The fact is that many homosexuals currently serve and have already served. It is a sad state of affairs that some in this country claim to support our troops when in reality they treat some as second class citizens.

I cite a personal experience of mine. My best friend growing up was Peter Simon. Peter had an older sister, Pam, who was an ASW specialist in the US Navy. She died in a chopper accident in late '91. After her death the Navy investigated allegations against her for being a lesbian, which she was. She was posthumously discharged, denied burial in a National Cemetery, and even denied a color guard at her funeral. Pam Simon was a Gulf War Veteran, and The Navy didn't even honor her service by presenting her mother with an American Flag at her funeral.

It is time that this country start honoring ALL of its men and women who serve!|||I think only white straight men should be allowed to enlist.
