What fraction of the military is composed of people who might have joined a gang?

I know the idea of a person who would otherwise be a gang member joining the military might offend some, in that the military is generally held in high esteem. But if you are a young person, inclined toward violence, it might be more appealing to be considered a hero for killing than being a criminal. I once suggested that some young people inclined toward violence might do just that, and it got a colleague of mine, a Vietnam vet, very angry. So, what do you think?|||The army is the biggest gang you could join. But umm that's a question that could go any way. It just depends on where the people are recruited out of. If you live inner city maybe you were in a gang. If you live in the country maybe you killed Corn. But once you join the Army that stuff doesn't really matter anymore and you become a soldier and a specialist at what you do.|||common fadder point man.

|||Very very few. Those inclined to join gangs generally screwed up in high school, did drugs, and didn't graduate. The military has a 0 tolerance policy on drug use and doesn't take many people that don't have a high school diploma or GED and 15 college credits. You have a very naive view of young people and violence.
