What is considered short military absence when filing a tax return?

I have been the in the USMC since June 2009, but my mother claimed me on her taxes saying it was only considered a short military absence.

What exactly is a short military absence? How long is this absence?|||There is no such thing in the tax code as a "short military absence." What your mother is likely referring to is that, in order to claim you as a dependent, you have to live with her for at least six months of the year except for temporary absences. I think your mother is incorrectly trying to push the definition of a temporary absence. If you are actively serving in the USMC and have been serving for over a year, you are almost definitely not a dependent of your mother or anyone else.

If your mother claimed you as a dependent, she needs to amend her return. You can file your return claiming your own exemption.|||she might have claimed on you on the 2009 but is she continuing to claim you? no way

usually the short term is like the temporary call up for the National Guard, when they are dispatched to handle disasters, i.e Katrina, or maybe the wild fires, or floods|||she just wanted to claim you for one more year
