Some front line soldiers are demanding to be let out rather than serve alongside Gays, will the military have to let them go? What if they refuse to serve because they have a religious objection to Gays?|||Well, They may need to seek legal recourse.
I think that they're overreacting, but thats their choice.|||You will see almost none. Besides, DADT means we have had gays serving for the last 16 years, and even though there was no asking and no telling, there are almost no one who does not know of gay people among their comrades. The reason for doing away with the law is not to let gays serve - they already do. And not really to let gays serve openly - as 'open' is relative, but to let them serve honorably by no longer requiring the lie of omission, or overt lies about home life to keep their jobs.
Besides, congress should never be deciding the qualifications for military service, especially irrelevant qualifications. That should always be the decision of the military based on their mission and needs.|||Some white soldiers demanded to be let out rather than serve alongside blacks when the military was first racially integrated.
That was no reason to refuse to admit blacks, was it? Or do you think that if one soldier objects to another soldier's presence, the objecting soldier should be released from military service? Would that ever be good policy?|||People in uniform signed a contract and that is what obligates them to serve. Trust me, it doesn't say anything like "...unless the civilian leadership does something I don't like."
There is no reason to think heterosexual troops haven't been serving with homosexual troops all along.
People can choose not to serve for any number of reasons, that is their right. Military service is not mandatory -- people can make a decision to serve their country in the military or in some other manner.|||The law will have 0 effect on the makeup and efficiency of the armed forces. Soldiers and Marines do their duty - bottom line. If they don't they are punished.
I can tell that you have never served in the armed forces - so why don't you just shut your pie hole and stop giving opinions about things you know nothing about. And if it's such a big issue with you, why don't you go down to your recruiter - join up, and rabble rouse while in uniform - see how far that goes.|||That is not really the problem. The problem is male and female service people. Will we continue to segregate men and women? If so, why? If we are going to allow gay men to share intimate living arrangements with other men and gay women to share intimate living arrangements with other women, why not have straight men and women share intimate living arrangements?
Why should homosexuals be granting greater privileges than heterosexuals?
*|||Hopefully they will awarded medals. This should draw the attention of gay loving Collins, Lieberman, Reid, 0bama, and the gaggle of civilians who never wore a US military uniform, yet allowed their own arrogance to think they know better than the real Admirals, generals, and sergeants who need to live with their horrible decision to integrate the armed forces with the third sex.|||Those are a very few homophobics and not the majority. Personally, I can think of several gay people I would trust in a combat situation far more than many of the macho types that are so afraid of gays.|||Hopefully those soldiers will be able to end their service soon and leave that laughing stock called the US military.
I thought the military was supposed to be about defending the very lives of Americans, not politically correct political bullsh*t.|||If a serviceman wants out, for THAT reason, they are acting unAmerican and should not be serving anyway. We don't want cowards in the military. And if they want out because they are AFRAID what might happen, they are cowards.|||How does the person next to your effect your efficiency.
This is the U.S. Army,
we are the best army in the world.
We allow gays into it and suddenly we are the worst?|||Probably about the same effect as those who refused to serve with black people.|||They will be discharged, just like the Whites who refused to serve with Blacks after the Armed Forces were integrated.|||Religion will probably be the next thing to go because it's incompatible with immorality.|||If they leave, i say left them. Aren't ye American Freedom fighters all about democracy and liberal views? ain't that not the point of the Afghan- Iraq war.
