Is encouraging youths to seek alternatives to the Military a good project to start?

Such as I will join a group that offers alternatives to the military, I may branch off and do my own thing. I want to enourage 10,000 youths to seek an alternative to the Military, then my mission is complete. Ultimately, the Military will improve, and people will be generally less unhappy.

Honestly the military is not a jobs program and doesn't help people get a job after a 4 to 6 years enlistment. It gives general work experiance, but that is about it. The qualifications do not necessarly translate well or cross over into the civilian sector in mot cases.

The GI Bill isn't what it is cracked-up to be, neither is T.A.

Recruiters LIE, someone needs to save these people from these predators.|||The whole military system is a joke Nothing against the soldiers but your not well paid and you don't really get allot out of joining but your expected to PAY the ultimate price die for what a small portion of the government believes is the right thing to do...they prey on the misfortune of the countries poor and misguided by making false promises and not coming through on many ... How many wounded soldiers would you say now have a better life because of the gov? How about the ones who died? Or their families??

That being said I believe ANY person serving in our military who is wounded, hurt or killed in service including mental problems that are caused from seeing and doing many things they do SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.. of course in the case of the dead soldiers how do you compensate their families??? Say sorry?Give them Money? I cant answer what exactly they can do but it should be Much more...How many times have you seen a veteran who served our country struggling to make a living even living on the street??? Its not right that they aren't taken care of . Any one in service should never have to worry about anything for the rest of their lives. when you get out of the military you should be celebrated as a hero and our government should make sure you can live comfortably especially if you are unable to take care of yourself .|||no its not a good idea.and how would you know the gi bill isnt all its cracked up to be,you need to be a member of the military or now someone who ias before you can say that.i can disagree with you about the gi bill,i seen what my husband is going to get for his gi bill.and the recruiters do not lie at least my husband'd didnt lie to him,i dont know about the other branches maybe they need to lie to get people to join that branch and if you do research on the branch you would know if he was lieing to you or not|||You miss the entire point.

Joing the military is not about getting a job or benefits.

Joining the military is about serving your country, wanting to protect our culture, values and freedoms and learning to be part of something larger than yourself.

Serving in the military also teaches people dicipline, self control, and many more useful character building qualitites.

For some young adults this is much needed as our public schools are no longer doing this and the families are becoming weaker with failed social policy after failed social policy (as well as high taxes which hurt the family unit).

I think all Americans should serve the country in some capacity. I would privatize our schools (or at least loosen the government monopoly grip on it and let parents have real choice), accelerate our learning for children and eliminate some of the "fluff" in schools and make everyone serve the country for two years in some capacity (such as military or other program).

If schools were revamped and learning accelerated the 2 years could even be incorporated in the same amount of years as our school system currently uses. Although, even if we extended this service after normal high school I think it would be a good thing.

There is little pride in being American today. There is little sacrafice or knowledge of the sacrafice people before us put in so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Having pride in your country is something we should encourage and foster.|||you just dont want people to join because you are a coward yourself. why dont you move to mexico.|||knock your self out with any pro gramme you wish to start, after all the military is the ones that have given you the right to be such a tosser [see his other question of last night]

I personally do not think you will get much backing and certainly no government funds, and there is others already in place IE the Job Corp etc etc|||Anti-Patriotic sounds like some little fairy drag queen that gets off posting inflammatory questions in different areas just to pull peoples' chains. He needs to get a life.|||The Military helped me and thousands of other GI's get to where we are now. Are you a former Veteran? You got some cojones to make your statement just because you don't have what it takes to serve or are too chickensh#t,

Don't try to drag others with you, wuss.|||Yea hey buddy I think you are going to change youre mind when we get the sh*t bombed out of us again. You are an idiot have some respect. You are lucky your even alive today and guess why you are??

Yea think about it.|||Hey, are you the new guy conducting terror and insurgency classes along the Pakistan border ? Or, are you some pathetic drop out from the military who was not recommended for re-enlistment. We can't be all things to all people. So what, if you never got past digging holes as a soldier, you have made up for it, by wanting to become the next Rev. Jim Jones. I'm impressed!|||I think you jumping off of something high might be a good idea. Not everyone thinks of themselves like you , you know. You're right, the military isn't for a job oppurtunity, it's a chance to serve your country and you people. Besides, we already have plenty of job oppurtunities outside of the military, it's called college and the work force. By the way, if a recruiter lies it's a personality flaw, not part of their job. I know and am friends with my recruiter, and several others, to associate all recruiters with a small amount of isolated incidents is stereotyping. Until the 19th century everyone was convinced that black people were stupid and good for nothing but picking cotton, and I'm sure some were, but then just as many of the white people were too stupid to do anything but pick cotton too, and apparently nothings changing. I suggest you stop wasting your time with these ideas of yours and do something truly useful. Start a charity, go to third world countries to help the less-fortunate, maybe pull on your boots and do a few years yourself even, just whatever you do, stop wasting oxygen about stuff you obviously have no clue about.|||The military is not a jobs program, but I will disagree with you vehemently about it doing nothing more than providing work experience. Any branch of the military provides a better start to life as an adult than college.

Benefits as follows:

Discipline

Leadership

Cooperation

Sense of responsibility

Sense of duty

Courteousness

Self confidence

And there are many more

I hire a few people a year, and if I have to choose between two people, one just out of the military, and the other just out of college, I have learned that that one just out of the military is the best choice for the reasons I listed above.

One other point. Experience is far more valuable than education.

For those that come from troubled or poor backgrounds, I can think of nothing better for them than the military.......nothing......the predators are those who wish to do us harm, not those that are in the military, or recruiting for the military.|||I think most of the answers here have said everything I can say. How ever they do seem to miss one of your arguments.

The army can train so many people for various jobs in the outside.

For a few truck drivers and cooks. Now I realize these are not glamorous or huge paying jobs, but us truckers are happy with our lives in most cases.

The GI bill put my brother through College and he seems happy with his life too.|||As usually your ignorance shine through. You haven't the first clue. I suggest you find a better way to occpy your time if you need some attention this bad you have serious issues.|||I was in the military during the Vietnam War. Do you think

there is an alternative? First of all if your fore fathers didn't fight in WW2 and so forth , you would not be here babbling your diatribe! The military builds character and is necessary to protect our freedom. Never forget 9/11/2001 !!!|||I think the military does a great job of building character. I think there should be a mandatory military service for everyone. Or at least for these kids who are getting in trouble with gangs, or vandalizing and spray painting crap all over walls and whatnot. And also through in the kids that drive around with their stereo to loud. If these kids were shipped out for military service, they would be forced to do some growing up, and the ones who would be afraid of being sent into the military would be on better behavior.|||No, it is not. The military, although it has it's problems, has been an instrumental agent in helping 'lost' young people find order, companionship, comraderie (sp?), trust, and purpose. Now, of course with anything else, it's not that way for everyone...but it has done so much good for some.|||maur911.....yes you are right to not forget 9/11....also don't forget that america brought that on itself with it's foreign policies.

let the youth of today see how the government treats it's military when they return from the frontlines, that'll make them get factory jobs or anything BUT the military.....lol

to join todays military is about the most foolish thing you can do, don't do it kids, the government won't even let you have a beer till your 21 yrs old, why would you do anything for them?|||yes it is! i agree!
