What are military member suppose to do when they need to sell their house in today's market? Renting is not an option, it is too risky. Why wouldn't the government consider this and provide ways to help their military members?|||I am in the military also, I sold my house back in December of 06 after being on the market for about 45 days. I spruced up the front yard, replaced the carpeting througout the house and repainted the exterior and interior. I spent about $6K. I got a $14,000 check on closing day, payed back the six and pocketed the rest. Now I'm buying another home. What's the big deal?|||They do the same thing that other people do. Buying a house is a personal financial decision, whether or not you're in the military.|||Why is renting "risky?" It seems the perfect thing for someone who is tranferred all the time to do.
I remember when I worked with the military hearing people say "If the Navy had wanted you to have a wife you would have been issued one." I guess that goes for a house too.
I don't see any reason why people in the military should get more of a handout from the government in terms of housing than anyone else. You're already getting free health care and vastly reduced grocery costs. And of course you could live on base if you chose to.
