In 1939 when WW2 started the US Military was ranked 17th biggest military in the world behind Romania, in less than 2,174 days it became the third biggest with over 15,000,000 soldiers, sailors, and marines.
Let say a major war were to happen how big and fast would the military grow?|||Remember, during World War 2, the United States issued a conscription, also known as the draft. If there were to be a major war of conflict, and the United States congress were to issue it a war, then there would be a conscription, most likely.|||Considering we are an all-volunteer force and very few people have the desire to put service before self, no way would we grow like that again.
However, if a draft were reinstated (which I seriously doubt would EVER happen again), it could have the potential to grow exponentially in a hurry. Unfortunately, the outdated process of signing up for selective service eliminates half the population from being drafted (no females), which I think is a total waste of resources. It could grow even faster if women were required to sign up for selective service as well.|||Under current plans, and YES there are plans that are kept current, in the event of a resumption of conscription the first recruits wouldn't arrive at training basis until 120 days after the first call for conscripts at the earliest. That means they wouldn't start arriving in units until 240 days after the call. Could that be sped up? Yes..but it would take a major effort.|||Well if America was under attack or a large threat we could grow pretty large, but not as large as we did in WW2. Honestly, along with the health problems America as now it could cause a lot of problems but as this is off topic, i feel like Puerta Rico as they're pretty much a part of the U.S.A would help out with vovolunteersYet, in the end we'd grow pretty rapidly but not big enough to even get half as we did back in 1939.|||Against China, if sh_t wa to hit the fan we would be unstoppable. Mainly because it would be a war instead of an illegal invasion of another country in order to secure resources. Is it weird that we sound like we are Mexico? Funny how that looks to someone on the other side, eh?|||Not nearly as fast as it used too. Too many bureaucracies, plus the fact that American's aren't as quick to sign up for service as they used to be.
